PG Trails

There are many mountain biking trail networks around Prince George, ranging from Cross-Country to Downhill and Freeride. The map (below) shows the location of these trail networks. Below the map is information on each of these trail networks.

Some of these trails or parts of the trails may be located on private property. The purpose of this page is only to provide information about where the trails are located. The PGCC does not recommend that anyone ride on trails that are located on, or cross, private property.

1) Cranbrook Hill

Description: The trails coming down onto Foothills Blvd. are some of the best trails in Prince George. They are all steep, and have long steep descents. These are great trails for a quick thrill, but I recommend only riding them if you are comfortable going fast down steep hills. There is a lot built up on these trails, mostly jumps and some sweet ramps. NOTE: As some of these trails are located on private property, obey signs and stay off of private property.

Directions: From downtown Prince George, head up 15th Ave. until you hit Foothills Blvd. Turn right onto Foothills Blvd. and then take a left onto Cranbrook Hill Rd. There is a sign that says Forests for the World. Either park at the bottom and ride (or walk) up Cranbrook Hill Rd., or leave one vehicle at the bottom and shuttle to the top. Follow Cranbrook Hill Rd. up, (it is a windy road) past the turnoff to the Forests for the World. Keep right around the corner and go until you hit the 90 degree corner turning to the left. The trail head for all of the trails is on the right hand side of the road. There are three main trail heads branching off from this point).

Trail Difficulty: Overall these trails range in difficulty from moderate to extreme

2) Dirtland

Description: Dirtland is a field out on the Hart with a variety of dirt jumps in it. This is a really cool place to practice and learn jumping. Most of the jumps are gaps (as opposed to table tops), but there are varying sizes of jumps and gaps, so you can hit what you are comfortable with. There are a couple table top jumps if you are not comfortable jumping gaps.

Directions: There are several ways to get into Dirtland, but the probably the best access is from Croft Rd. To get there from the Hart Highway, turn left at the lights by the Hart Wheel Inn Restaurant. Take the first right then a left and go straight until you hit Croft Rd. Turn right and follow Croft Rd. until you see the cement barrier on the right (at the bus stop just before the Glade and Croft intersection). Head up this trail and you will see Dirtland.

Trail Difficulty: The jumps vary from intermediate to expert

3) Forests for the World

Description: Most of the trails in the Forests for the World network are double track. These trails are really good for a relaxing casual ride, or if you just want to explore around. There are some spread out single track trails with some pretty steep and rocky hills. These single tracks are fun.

Directions: From downtown Prince George, head up 15th Ave. until you hit Foothills Blvd. From here, you can go straight up to the university, or you can turn right onto Foothills Blvd. and then left up the Cranbrook Hill Rd. If you take the Cranbrook Hill Rd., turn left at the top of the hill and follow the gravel road to the parking lot. If you head up to the university, drive past the UNBC turnoff at the top of the hill. At the sharp corner turn right onto a gravel road. Take the first left and follow it up to the parking lot.

Trail Difficulty: The single track trails in this network range from easy to moderate

4) Greenway

Description: The Greenway trail is a 22 km trail that runs from the Blue Spruce Campground in College Heights through Forests for the World to the Otway trail network. This is a nice ride if you are looking for a relaxing ride through the country. There aren’t really any technical aspects to this trail, aside from wildlife. Therefore, this trail is better ridden with a trail bike, as apposed to a downhill/freeride bike. I recommend parking a vehicle at the end to shuttle back, as it is a LONG ride back.

Directions: From downtown Prince George, head up 15th Ave. and turn left onto Highway 97. At the main intersection of Highway 97 and Highway 16, turn right onto Highway 16 West. Follow this highway up through College Heights and turn right onto Kimball Rd. Follow this road until you see the trail head off to the right.

Trail Difficulty: Easy

5) LC Gun

Description: This trail goes officially by the name “LC Gun Trail” as it starts at the LC Gun Park. Local hikers and riders know this trail by the name “The Lovers' Trail”, since this is a common place for teenagers to party on the weekends. This is a really nice and semi-technical ride for beginners or experienced riders. To get up to the trail, you have to ride (usually walk) Cardiac Hill (the name will be obvious once you ride the trail). After that, it is pretty much a gradual ride back down, with one semi-steep hill at the end. This trail is technical due to a few sharp corners and the MANY roots covering the trail. Be prepared to eat some dirt, especially if you want to ride fast. At the end, I recommend turning around and riding the trail back. Cardiac Hill is a blast to ride back down, especially in the early spring when it is muddy and still covered in icy patches.

Directions: This trail is best ridden from north to south, so park somewhere downtown, or in the LC Gun Park parking lot on Highway 16 east. If you park downtown (the best option) ride north to 1st Ave. and turn right. 1st. Ave. turns into Highway 16 East. Follow the highway across the bridge. The trail starts at the end of the bridge, off to the right. At the other end of the trail, you will come out onto Highway 97 South. Turn right on the highway and ride across the Simon Fraser Bridge back into town.

Trail Difficulty: Easy/Moderate, depending on speed and how wet the trail is

6) Otway

Description: Most of the trails in the Otway Trail Network are double track trails intended for skiing in the winter. There are many single track trails spread throughout the double track network. Many of these trails have steep sections and have good jumps built up on them. There are trails at Otway for riders of all skill levels. Otway is the home of the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club and the trails are maintained by this club. Please respect the trails and provide a donation in the donation box before your ride in order to help maintain the club and the trail network.

Directions: From downtown Prince George, head up 15th Ave. until you get to Ospika Blvd. Turn right onto Ospika Blvd. Ospika Blvd turns into Otway Rd. after you pass over Foothills Blvd. Follow Otway Rd. until you have driven over two railroad crossings. Take the first road to the left. This is the Otway ski area parking lot.

Trail Difficulty: Overall, the single track trails range from easy to difficult

7) Pidherny

Description: The Pidherny Trail Network is a pretty extensive, and starts at the Foothills Landfill and ends on Pidherny Rd; with cross-country trails extending all the way west to the cut banks along North Nechako Rd.. Depending on the trail you choose, they range from easy to difficult. Many of the trails have quite a few structures and jumps built. Most people park at the pullout at the end of Pidherny Rd., push to the top and then ride back down. Try hiking back up the "$10" trail. It only takes about 10 minutes to get back up that way, and it isn't too hard of a hike. At the end of "Bukkake" you will find a pretty cool dirt jump area.

Directions: From downtown Prince George, drive up 15th Ave. and turn right onto Foothills Blvd. Drive straight up Foothills Blvd until you reach North Nechako Rd. Turn left onto North Nechako Rd. and drive until you reach Pidherny Rd. Turn right onto Pidherny Rd. Follow Pidherny Rd. until you reach the yellow Gate. Park here and push your bike up Pidherny Rd. for about 2.25 km until you reach the dirt Jump Pit (on the right). You can access the trails from here. It is best to push your bike up "$10" to access the top of the trails.

Trail Difficulty: Varies from moderate to difficult depending on the trail.
